unnatural disaster : production

The Arkansas Times Team got together again to participate in the local 48 Hour Film competition 2006. The final film exceeded everyone's expectations. We are not bragging when we say that this is one of the best movies we've ever done. The script was strong, and the actors hit each comedic note with perfect timing.

Round two

Like last year with My Hero, Robert was brought in to direct. This year we had the largest crew ever. Everyone hustled, no one quit. Despite some of the crew's lack of experience, they acted like pros. As David Koon stated, we brought our "A" game.

3 Live crew

Unnatural Disaster was logistically difficult. There are three film crews that exist in the movie: the fake crew, the rival crew, and the real crew filming the whole thing. This required all the crews to be fully outfitted with proper gear and props. This also meant that each actor's schedule had to be meticulously controlled, so that they didn't accidentally appear as a part of someone else's crew or that crew's shot.

The film was also shot on one of the hottest days of the summer. The morning was spent outdoors, in an unshaded park. If you watch the footage carefully, you can see that all the actors and crew members had massive sunburns by the end of the day.

Unnatural Disaster was shot on a Sony Z1, with HDV footage down-converted to SD.
